Lt. Governor Tim Murray And "Idol" Ayla Brown Headline Opening Ceremonies
Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Timothy P. Murray and singer/songwriter Ayla Brown appeared at the opening ceremonies for the 10th Annual Cal Ripken 12-Year Old World Series on Robert J. Nutile Field in Winchester. Lt. Governor Murray spoke to the players, coaches, families and fans, while Ms. Brown sang the National Anthem as well as one of her original songs to the delight of thousands of baseball fans. In addition, a company of Lexington Minutemen, a U.S. Air Force color guard from Hanscom Air Force base, and Irish step dancers appeared during the opening ceremonies. World Series Webcasts The Youth Sports Live Broadcasting Network will provide live webcasts of all games during the 2009 Cal Ripken 12-year Old World Series. DVDs will be available for purchase as well as replay on demand. Fees for the webcasts and related services are: $4.95 for one day, $9.99 for the week, and $14.95 for the month of August. Customers are also entitled to watch all tournaments covered by Babe Ruth TV and Youth Sports Live. DVDs may be purchased for $19.99 per game. Buy World Series Souvenir Cookies Baseball fans -- you can now purchase your 2009 Cal Ripken World Series souvenir cookies from Winchester's own LaPatisserie. Every cookie displays the World Series logo. Every cookie you purchase will help to defray the cost of this event. Better yet, the baker's souvenir cookies look fantastic and taste great! West Lewis County, Washington Captures 2009 Championship West Lewis County, Washington saved its best for last, as David Grace pitched four innings of no-hit, shutout ball and doubled home two runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead the Pacific Northwest regional winners to a 4-0 win over Rainbow City/Southside, Alabama in the championship game of the 2009 Cal Ripken 12-Year Old World Series. The teams played four and a half innings of scoreless baseball before Washington rallied for four runs in the home fifth. Logan Gootgeld and Jeremy Seifert also drove in runs to fuel Washington's rally. Although Washington began the tournament with a 1-3 record, during the elimination round, the team found its hitting stroke, including four home runs during its semifinal win against previously unbeaten South Lexington, Kentucky, and delivered strong, clutch pitching performances. Congratulations to the 2009 champions from Washington!
Kinigsbridge, New York's Adam DelaCruz (above) received the Outstanding Player Award for the 2009 Cal Ripken 12-Year Old World Series. In the tournament's best individual performance, DelaCruz took a no-hitter into the 6th inning, struck out 17 batters, and hit a three-run homer to lead Kingsbridge, New York to an 8-1 victory over host Winchester. During the tournament, DelaCruz hit .438 (7 for 16), slammed 4 home runs, and drove in 6 runs to lead his team to a berth in the elimination round.

Volunteers Have made the 2009 World Series a Huge Success Over 350 volunteers from Winchester and other surrounding towns made the 2009 Cal Ripken 12-Year Old World Series a huge success by donating countless hours of time, effort, and enthusiasm to the cause. On behalf of Sachem Youth Baseball/Softball, we extend our sincere thanks to each and every individual who participated in this event. The World Series has been a very special event for Winchester and has provided us with an opportunity to show so many visitors from across Massachusetts and across the country our hospitality. Warren A's brother Matt (center) plays varsity baseball for Winchester High School and is a member of the Class of 2011. Matt A won the 2005 Cal Ripken New England Regional Home Run Derby at Nutile Field.
